Research
I reached out to All Well for NarWell, who amplified my outreach by sharing the campaign posters I designed on their social channels, and through Parsons' Global Center for Mental Health I completed Red Cross Psychological First Aid certification to guide my approach. From there I ran my own interviews and focus groups with students, staff, and faculty across The New School, and confirmed the pattern I'd suspected: healthcare anxiety was tied less to illness itself than to dense insurance terminology, unclear coverage, and a sense of being dismissed.
Design
I designed and wrote a plain-language health-insurance glossary and pamphlet, translating terms like deductible, premium, and preauthorization into direct, human definitions, along with campaign posters and a digital brochure to distribute the material across campus.
Feedback
The most common response from participants was relief at finally having the terminology explained plainly. Several noted it was the first time healthcare paperwork had made sense to them.
